Our Commitment to Charity

Charity lies at the heart of Freemasonry, and the District Grand Lodge of Bombay upholds this principle through structured benevolence programmes and direct support to those in need. The District channels its charitable efforts through dedicated boards and funds, ensuring that contributions reach meaningful causes across the region.

From relief initiatives to ongoing welfare support, the District's charitable arm reflects the Masonic values of compassion, integrity, and service to the community.

District Board of Benevolence

The District Board of Benevolence oversees the assessment and distribution of relief to brethren, their widows, and dependants facing hardship. The Board meets regularly to review cases and ensure timely, dignified assistance.

Bombay District E.C. Grand Charity

Operating under the English Constitution, the Bombay District Grand Charity supports both Masonic and non-Masonic causes. Its remit includes disaster relief, educational grants, and contributions to local charitable institutions.

Central Charities & Mentoring

Beyond immediate relief, the District participates in broader charitable frameworks including Central Charities and mentoring programmes. These initiatives aim to provide long-term support, guidance, and opportunity — particularly for younger members of the community and those seeking to rebuild their lives.

Historical Relief Efforts: In November 2013, a relief chest was opened to aid victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. In 2014, Lodge Burnett No. 3824 E.C. directed support to local charities in Pune.

Charity forms the very foundation of Freemasonry, and the District Grand Lodge of Bombay embraces this principle with a deep sense of responsibility and purpose. Through carefully structured benevolence programmes, the District channels support to communities in need across the region, ensuring that Masonic values of compassion and integrity are expressed through meaningful action. The charitable arm of the District operates with transparency and dedication, directing funds toward relief initiatives, welfare projects, and long-term support systems. Every contribution is guided by a commitment to serve without expectation, reflecting the timeless Masonic ideal that true charity is offered quietly, with humility and respect for the dignity of every individual.

The District's charitable efforts are organised through dedicated boards and funds that evaluate needs and distribute resources where they can have the greatest impact. This structured approach ensures that benevolence reaches beyond the immediate circle of Freemasonry, extending into the wider community where assistance is most needed. From supporting educational opportunities to providing relief during times of hardship, the works undertaken reflect a thoughtful and sustained commitment to service. Each initiative is rooted in the understanding that charity is not merely an act of giving but a way of living, woven into the daily practice of Masonic principles and fellowship.

Masonic charity in Bombay draws on a long tradition of service that connects lodges and members across the District in a shared mission of goodwill. The collective effort of many individuals, each contributing according to their means, creates a powerful force for positive change in society. Whether through ongoing welfare support or responsive aid in times of crisis, the charitable works of the District stand as a testament to the strength of unity and brotherly love. These efforts remind all who participate that Freemasonry's true purpose is found not in ceremony alone, but in the quiet, steadfast work of building a more compassionate world.
